LAL @ The Anchor – Bilal Zafar & Mike Sheer

28 October , 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Bringing an exciting, premium comedy night to the heart of Oxford. TV names, exciting new talent, and circuit favourites.

Bilal Zafar:
Bilal Zafar was nominated for the lastminute.com Best Newcomer Award for his debut show, CAKES, at the Edinburgh Fringe. Bilal also won the New Act of the Year award joining the company of previous winners such as Stewart Lee, Ardal O’Hanlon, Joe Wilkinson and Linda Smith.
He was the runner up at the Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year competition. He has appeared on BBC3, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Asian Network, and has written for The Independent.
An accomplished actor, he has appeared in Channel 4 sitcom Catastrophe, Sky sitcom Sick of It and the Paul Feig directed feature film Last Christmas.
Mike Sheer:
Canadian comic Mike Sheer is full of contradictions – not just because he has both a baby face and gout. His humour jumps from light to dark, smart to stupid, low-brow to high. Audiences are on their toes while laughing off their butts.

His focus on the moment means he blurs the line between compere and act – happy to give in to crowd-sparked inspiration amongst crisp one-liners, grumpy rants, and goofy takes on heavy topics like grieving and sexual orientation.

He’s performed in twelve countries and counting. This includes opening, headlining and compering at theatres, clubs and pubs, as well as solo hours and compilations at festivals such as Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, and Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Screen appearances as a stand-up include MuchMusic (Canada)’s Video On Trial, BBC One’s Are You Having a Laugh? – Comedy and Christianity, and Shorts.tv‘s Shorts International. But his magnum opus is as the kid who gets high and blows his head off in stoner classic Harold & Kumar Get The Munchies – a scene that’s since become a cult favourite.Gags written with elegant efficiency and delivered with a punchy style… waltzes around the potentially contentious with a self-effacing charm… Sheer is a talented act with bags of potential, definitely worth a punt despite his relative lack of profile in the UK – an injustice that could well be rectified before too long.” – Chortle.co.uk

Fiona Ridgewell:
As seen on Eastenders, Shameless, Skins and Waterloo Road.
